Q.What types of products are made with EVOLVE®?
A. Custom extrusions are our primary business. Our customers have used EVOLVE in a wide variety of applications, including gutters, spool flanges, sign posts, clean room walls, conveyor rails, and truck beds, just to name a few. See more examples in our Photo Gallery and Applications pages.
RENEW Plastics also manufactures and sells an alternative decking product under the EVOLVE name.
Q. Will EVOLVE extruded plastic fade?
A. EVOLVE is protected by advanced ultra-violet stabilizers, so while no material is entirely resistant to the effects of sunlight, EVOLVE is close.
Q. Does the plastic have consistent color?
A. We make every effort to maintain color consistency. However, due to utilizing recycled materials, and the standard allowable variances in the color we purchase, slight shade variations can occur.
Q. How much does the extruded plastic weigh?
A. EVOLVE is comparable in weight to a good hardwood such as oak.
Q. Can EVOLVE be used for structural applications?
A. No. While EVOLVE is virtually indestructible and impervious to deterioration, it doesn’t have the same stiffness of wood lumber. Therefore, it is not intended for use as a column, beam, joist, stringer, stud or other primary load-bearing member.
Q. Can the extruded plastic be cut and machined?
A. EVOLVE is versatile and machinable. EVOLVE can be cut, drilled, planed, routered, shaped, nailed or screwed—just like wood—without splintering or cracking.
Q. Can EVOLVE products be stained or painted?
A. EVOLVE was designed with a solid core of color to eliminate the painting or staining step in your manufacturing process. Staining or painting will not harm EVOLVE. However, stain or paint will not penetrate the surface because the product doesn’t absorb moisture. Therefore, stains or paints will tend to flake off the surface over time.
Q. How does temperature affect EVOLVE?
A. Fluctuations in temperature will cause EVOLVE to expand and contract along its length. Our technicians can explain ways to minimize the impact and help evaluate your application.
Q. Will EVOLVE components get hot in the sun?
A. Not very. EVOLVE will not absorb as much heat as wood and will not reflect it like metal, so it remains significantly cooler in the sun. EVOLVE has been used for playground slides, where it remains cool to the touch and doesn’t splinter or burr.
Q. Is EVOLVE slippery when wet?
A. EVOLVE is no more slippery than painted or sealed wood when wet. A natural film, which can’t be seen or felt, is left on the surface of the material after manufacturing. Sunlight will normally “burn off” this film in a few weeks. We can provide custom finishes for extra traction or friction-resistance.
Q. How does EVOLVE compare to metal, wood, and concrete components?
A. EVOLVE recycled plastic is ideal for replacing wood, metal and concrete because it will not rot, crack, peel, corrode or become brittle. This robust materials is virtually indestructible and is comparable in weight to a good hardwood such as oak. Because it is impervious to water, EVOLVE is easy to clean and won’t harbor harmful mold or bacteria. EVOLVE is also impervious to most chemicals, making it an excellent choice for many manufacturing applications where corrosion was a problem.
Q. How does EVOLVE recycled plastic compare to composite material?
A. Composite products, such as composite lumber, are made with wood fillers and other additives. These fillers absorb moisture and chemicals, making them susceptible to staining, mold, rot, peeling and blistering. EVOLVE is a truly durable, low maintenance product that retains its original appearance for decades.
Q. Do you have minimum order requirements?
A. Yes.
Q. Can you tool and fabricate my part for me?
A. RENEW™ Plastics has some in-house machining capabilities. We can also identify machining partners and manage your production process for you.
Q. Will you stock my parts for me or provide other supply services?
A. Yes. We pride ourselves on quick-turnaround and a high satisfactory delivery rate. RENEW Plastics welcomes partnership opportunities and will work with you to develop a responsive supply system.
