Jan Hoeffel of Sonoma, California had his crew build this project with guidance from Rob Hauck of Mr. Deck Co. of San Martin, California. It is the first deck that RENEW Plastics had ever sold with the new 1" x 5-1/2" Groove and Groove tooling. The color of this deck is weatherwood. This project has several key aspects that are worth noting. Jan is particularly happy with how his railing turned out. This deck originally was a redwood deck that was laid in three sections over forty years. The decking material formerly ran the length of the deck. This deck required considerable leveling. This was necessary because the Evolve decking material will be running in the opposite direction of that of the previous decking material. The plastic deck was laid over every other board of the existing old deck. Also, 500 sq ft of new decking was added with 8" plank spacing. Decking was secured either with plastic Groove and Groove clips every 12" or stainless steel screws from below. The "Renewed" deck is approximately 2,000 sq ft. The Groove and Groove decking material proved to be an excellent choice in the reconstruction of this older deck.
