Building Guide
The limited lifetime warranty on your EVOLVE® recycled plastic lumber decking is dependant upon proper installation. Please review the installation requirements and be sure you are comfortable with them before starting the construction of your deck.

Here’s a quick overview of the basics:
EVOLVE is a Premium Finishing Product
EVOLVE is not intended to be used as a structural component. Due to the longevity of our plastic lumber, we recommend using a high quality kiln dried wood product or galvanized steel for your substructure.
Shorten Deck Board Length
Unlike wood or composite decking which swells or shrinks with humidity, EVOLVE is unaffected by moisture. However, EVOLVE decking is responsive to temperature and will expand and contract along its length. Run joists in the longest direction of the deck and run the deck boards across the shortest dimension whenever possible.
Joist Spacing
Joist spacing is dependant upon the thickness and angle of deck boards. The joists must be on 12” centers when using our standard ¾” decking. If decking is to be laid diagonally, the joists must be placed even closer.As with any construction project, remember to do the following:
- Obtain a building permit
- Wear proper safety equipment
- Ensure all equipment guards are in place
- Think through the entire process in advance
- Familiarize yourself with the materials and their application
